Integrity of Ambivalence
The Core of My Artistic Practice
For me, Integrity of Ambivalence describes a central challenge of our time: the conscious engagement with inner contradictions without prematurely resolving or suppressing them. In a world that constantly demands clarity, optimisation and clear-cut positions, ambivalence is often misinterpreted as weakness. My artistic work deliberately sets a counterpoint to this tendency.
I understand ambivalence not as a simple coexistence of opposites, but as an inner field of tension that complicates decisions while simultaneously opening new perspectives. Only where conflicting impulses are endured at the same time does a space emerge for insight, maturation and transformation. In this sense, integrity does not mean the absence of contradiction, but the capacity to remain faithful to one’s inner conflicts.

My works operate precisely within this field of tension. They explore oppositions such as order and freedom, security and risk, control and surrender, rationality and intuition. These poles are not harmonised, but consciously placed in relation to one another. Each artwork therefore carries at least two opposing readings: an affirmative one and a critical one. The images are deliberately conceived to allow both affirmation and doubt, holding ambivalence open rather than resolving it.
In this way, I understand art as a medium of awareness. It opens experiential spaces in which the both–and is not perceived as a deficiency, but as a productive way of living. Integrity of Ambivalence means not playing contradictory aspects against each other, but giving them a shared, workable form.
My works invite viewers not only to observe this tension, but to locate themselves within it. They do not offer definitive answers; they keep possibilities open. Ambivalence thus becomes not a deficit, but a source of depth, freedom and inner dynamics.
